We are FIRST Tech Challenge Team #9779 the PIEaters. We are a four member team of 12th grade students in the Orlando area. This is our ffifth year in FIRST Tech Challenge and prior to that we competed for two years in the FIRST Lego League.
What is FIRST?
FIRST stands for “For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology”. The mission of FIRST is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication and leadership. Gracious Professionalism, is the ethos of FIRST.
There are 4 age based FIRST Leagues: FIRST Lego League Jr. (ages K-3rd grade), FIRST Lego League (4th-8th grade), FIRST Tech Challenge (7th-12 grade) and FIRST Robotics Competition (9th-12th grade).
What is FIRST Tech Challenge?
We compete in FIRST Tech Challenge which is designed for students who want to compete head to head using a sports model. Teams are given a challenge at the beginning of the season and are responsible for designing, building, and programming a robot to compete in an alliance format against other teams. Awards are given for competition as well as for outreach, design, and other real-world accomplishments.
